2007 Christmas Cartoon Project Winners!
Published by Matt Glover December 21st, 2007 in Group Projects
Congratulations to Greg Kogan for being chosen by Mark Anderson as the 2007 Chewing Pencils Christmas Cartoon Winner!
Here’s what Mark had to day about Greg’s submission and the project in general:
First off let me say that there were a lot of really good entries here. All are funny, many are salable, and a few had me pounding my forehead in frustration that I hadn’t already thought of that gag.
After some careful consideration (and even a few emails to Matt to clarify some finer points of the judging) I’ve selected my winner. So, without any further adieu, the winner is… Gregory Kogan’s “Polite Santa.”
Wordless gags are, in my opinion, some of the hardest to pull off, and Gregory does a really nice job on this one. It’s gentle good humor, but still very funny. The art is simple, but not lacking, and takes full advantage of (I’m stealing this phrase from Mike Lynch) visual shorthand to get the scene and characters across instantly.
I can easily see this one in any number of major markets. Great cartoon!
Also, it should be noted that my goons have begun systematically hunting you all down to destroy your talents, so tell them I say hi.
Mark
And if you’re wondering where the word “Matt” is, take a careful look at the snowflakes…
Voting closed for the “People’s Choice” award at 4pm Melbourne time today. Thanks to everybody that sent in their votes and told others to do the same.
Congratulations to Matt Hanneman for and his ‘Santa in Space’ cartoon:

Both Greg and Matt receive a $25 Amazon Voucher just in time for Christmas.
Once again, thanks to everybody for taking part - we’ll do it again soon!
Finally, may you and those you love have a very safe and happy Christmas.
Matt

That was a lot of fun Matt! Thanks for hosting.

Congratulations!
This is great, because I voted for BOTH of your entries!
Great job everybody!

I have to ask, however…Mark said; “All are funny, many are salable, and a few had me pounding my forehead in frustration that I hadn’t already thought of that gag.”
Have any advice for those of us who didn’t win? Whose were salable, and where could you see them sold?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!
