$250 for your thoughts?
Published by i-ming October 3rd, 2007 in Tips for Becoming a Pro
You’ve surely heard or even used the phrase, “A Penny for your thoughts”. An I’m sure some of the more enterprising of you have even collected the penny for sharing your thoughts.
Now if I offered $250 for your thoughts, I’m sure the comments of this post will be full. Sadly, I’m not here, to pay you that kind of money for your thoughts. I’m here to fill in for Matt, and to let you know that there are people out there paying that kind of money and more for your thoughts.
Now here’s the catch. You need to mould your thought into a tangible form before you can sell it. Now what kind of form am I suggesting? Well surprise surprise, A cartoon of course! $250 is how much I got paid per cartoon, for my very first cartooning gig. And what is a cartoon, but a simple thought, presented well or in a humorous way.
Think about this:
You’re always thinking, and some of the things you think about are really funny, or touching or insightful. But if you don’t note them down, there is a good chance you’ll forget them.
Your thoughts are worth something, and if you’re an aspiring cartoonist, they can be worth more than a penny. Take notes, or you just might be letting some good bread pass you by. The notes you take, will be the ore from which you extract your cartooning gold.
We don’t create ideas. We notice them.
A penny for your thoughts? (it’s a figure of speech)

Great post! Made me think of a few ideas while I was reading it.
That’s a really interesting perspective. I always suggest carrying a small notepad with you so that you can jot down funny ideas that fly through your mind throughout the day, but I never thought about it in this sense.
