Quick Tip: Taking a day off
Published by Matt Glover July 12th, 2007 in Quick TipsMy family is still quite young.
My boys are four and two respectively, so the time we spend together is both precious and formative.
I don’t want them to grow up resenting my work because it ‘always took Daddy away’ nor do I want them to resent me for never giving them my best.
So, when it comes to setting goals in either of my work settings, family is always the top priority. It doesn’t matter how urgent something is or how close a deadline might be, if my family need me I’m there. Of course, there are times when they make sacrifices, especially on those days when I have to stay overnight elsewhere, but I make it a point to somehow repay them for allowing me to do what I do.
The last few weeks have been nuts. I’m owed lots of time, and I can feel my head starting to squeeze with the pressure of everything. This is not good for me or my family, so tomorrow I’m taking the day off.
There will be no drawing, except with the boys.
There will be no phone calls or emails, though we might play a few computer games.
There will be no blog writing (anything that appears will have been written earlier and scheduled to appear)
There will be no housework other than making meals. Then again, we might go out.
It’s a day to simply be together and do whatever we feel like.
As a freelancer, this will cost me some money. But the flip side is that it builds the relationships between my family to what I hope they will be forever.
So, There’s no Friday Feature Artist tomorrow.
But you can leave me lot’s of nice comments. It is my birthday afterall!

Well then, happy birthday!
And good for you for being clear on your priorities! There will be plenty of years ahead when your boys will be off doing their own things — lap up all the years that they want to spend time with you!
