The Chewing Pencils blog turns one today!
Thank you to everybody who has been part of the journey and become part of the CP community. It’s been a privilege for me to interact with so many talented people from around the globe, both learning and sharing some of the oddities that make a person a cartoonist.
Chewing Pencils started off as an experiment. I felt that there was a bit of a gap in the information available to aspiring cartoonists and so gave myself one year to share my experience. Communicating everything I knew took about three weeks. The rest I just made up…
The experiment had to pay for itself, had to challenge my own thinking and practice, and had to encourage others to give cartooning a red hot go. The first two I know I have achieved and the feedback seems to suggest that the same can be said for the third.
Despite most of the things being covered that I wanted to, the experiment will continue for a little while yet. The frequency of posts might waver but I will do my best to ensure that what is posted is good quality and worth you taking a few minutes to read.
So, thanks again for traveling with me for this part of the journey. May we share a few more scribbles on the road ahead.

its 5 oclock in the morning and im getting ready to go to work…hopefully with the help of chewing pencils i wont be doing this in the future. as an aspiring cartoonist and an admirer of your work both in the cartooning field and on setting up this most helpfull and insightfull site,id like to congratulate you on your achievements with chewing pencils and wish you a happy birthday.good luck in the future matt,and keep up the fantastic work you do.
