Quick Tip: Lazy is Good!
Published by Matt Glover April 30th, 2007 in Quick TipsWell, sometimes it is!
One of the dealines I’m trying to meet at the moment requires me to draw a series of comic strips that have the same characters in more or less the same positions over and over again. I’ve been given the text to use, so basically just have to draw people saying the words!
If I was a purist, I would draw each person individually each time.
But I’m not. I’m lazy and I draw on the computer. Which means the cut and paste buttons are getting a good work out!!
To put it simply, I’ve drawn each character only once and then pasted it into the strip each time I need that character, only changing the position of the hands or eyes or changing the colour of the clothes for variety.
The client is more than happy and so am I! We negotiated the fee upfront which was not based on the time I spent doing the job. Hence good money for less effort and far less time.
Now THAT’S a good deal!
If only it would work with all my deadlines….

Ah, personally I’m against copy-and-pasting characters. If it’s for a set of cartoons (for, say, an online mascot or a set of stickers), it makes for a boring set.
But on the other hand, if you’re not too excited about the project and you just want to get it over with, I guess it works out well (easy cash).
