Quick Tip: Combine Ideas
Published by Matt Glover December 19th, 2006 in Quick Tips
Our January Drawing Project judge, Matt Golding, has done a great little gag in the weekend edition of the Age Newspaper.
As a bit of background, the states of Victoria and Tasmania in Australia are battling huge bushfires at the moment - possibly the largest seen in the last one hundred years. A common sight in recent years during summer has been the fire fighting chopper nicknamed ‘Elvis’ swooping through the skies. It sucks up a belly full of water before dumping it on the hard to get to places that are on fire. This year is no different.
At the same time, we’re choking through a killer drought and are living with increasingly tight water restrictions each month. Basically, it’s stinking hot and bone dry, with air choked by bush fire smoke.
I’ve always thought that the best editorial/gag cartoons are those that can combine two ideas or current news stories at the same time. Golding has done this brilliantly with his latest cartoon.
