Searching For the Right Font?
Published by Matt Glover November 2nd, 2006 in Fonts
My hand lettering is woeful.
I’ve tried numerous times to improve it, but at the end of the day, the ease and speed of using a computer based font makes any effort to improve my hand written stuff a big, fat waste of time.
But then there is the dilemma of which font to use!
There’s always the standard Comic Sans but who really wants to use that? Arial gets a decent work out from time to time, but it doesn’t really have that ‘cartoony’ feel. What is a lazy cartoonist to do?!
Fret no more! The team from Blambots has your cartoon font needs covered…
This site is amazing. There are heaps of really cool cartoon fonts you can download, plus heaps more that you can buy for a small fee. And if that isn’t enough, they can even create one especially for you! From their web site:
Comic Book Lettering is an essential ingredient in a successful project. Good lettering is more than just typing in dialogue on a page. It’s a subtle and effective element that not only moves the story along, but encompasses the entire aesthetic of your comic. Each title, caption and logo has to compliment your art and story without overpowering them. It’s an art. It’s a science. It takes years of experience to do it well. The Blambot Design Team is made up of professional graphic designers who have worked for publishers like Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Oni and Image. We create all our own original fonts and logos and can get your project done fast, reliably and professionally.
How cool is that?! I guarantee you’ll have a great time looking at all the different fonts thay have to offer.
