Quick Tip: Spread the Word!
Published by Matt Glover October 9th, 2006 in Advertising and Marketing
One of the real challenges of the cartoon business is promoting yourself and your work. While we like to think that people will flock to our website and swoon over our cartoons, the reality is that most of our visitors find our sites by accident, stay for a minute or so, and never return.
I firmly believe that the web is now the best way to promote yourself as a cartoonist, so there needs to be some effort invested into driving traffic to your site. The very simplest way to do this is to ensure that your web address is attached to the signature of every outgoing email that you send. In addition, every post that you leave on a forum, every comment that you leave on a blog, and every place you have a ‘profile’ should have your address splashed all over it.
There are other forms of advertising that I’ll cover in another post, but this is by far the simplest and cheapest - and often quite effective. Give it a try!

Matt, hey by the way my new blog just got set up today. I wanted to let you know that you were my first link there so far. I’ll be in touch here in the next month for that interview. I need to get a few posts under my belt before I dive into anything. The blog will launch officially after about 10 posts. Hope all is well with you.
